Marthe Armitage

Today I want to share the beautiful work of Marthe Armitage and what it makes me wonder about.

What I love about this fabric design is the way each shape contains an illustration. It’s so simple and beautiful and timeless. I wonder about these shapes as a compositional device… I like the idea of a painting of paintings… or a painting of a mood board…

What appeals to me about this design (Gardeners) is the scale of the elements included; huge urn of flowers with tiny people next to it and then tiny gardening tools in a wiggly box nearby. I wonder about how to combine elements in a painting and I love the way it is done in these textiles.
